**Passage of the exam is an alternative to education

The National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB) over sees the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCETM/NCETMB) a 125 question massage test used in about 38 states. Cost is about $225. NCBTMB is a private organization.

The Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards (FSMTB) is an organization created by the states to provide a standard test: the Massage & Bodywork Licensing Examination (MBLEx). Cost is about $195.
